Shooting In The Headmaster's Office- Filming

In preparation for this part of filming we created 4 posters that were used in shots and during this filming period- they read, "Detention list", "Students to Cane list", "How to Cane" and "Student Discipline". During the filming process we shot in a location relate to our lyrics "Sits alone and bends his cane" so we decided to shoot in our headteacher's office. We place the lyrics on a wall around the office, we used close ups on these titles and also the information on the posters.

We decided to use hand held shots when we were in the office so we could also use panning around the room to reveal the location until we got to the posters. We also tried to film a singer on the headmaster's singing while turning on the chair however this was unsuccessful.

Shooting "Smashing Up The Woodwork Tools"- Filming

Today we filmed footage in the woodwork room at our school- for the line 'smashing up the woodwork tools' for this we shot in the technique of stop motion animation by moving the tools slightly in one shot and moving in further in another. This created the illusion that the tools were moving on there own. The type of shots we used were high angle and eye line match, we also placed a comical character of 'zippy' in the backdrop to make it humorous and the shot more interesting.

Booking Rooms and Actors-Planning

During todays lesson we have confirmation from our head teacher who also will be playing the head teacher in our music video that we will be able to film him on Tuesday 29th September, and also will be able to use his office on Wednesday 30th September. We have also booked a woodwork room to be used Tuesday 29th September during period one in school. In preparation for this we need to make sure we have organised our props and well as making posters. We have also booked a FIG-RIG with Mr Winters (our media tech) .

Shooting In The Playground and Establishing Shots -Filming

In today's shooting session, Myself, Sheriece and Tom decided we would shoot in the playground and also outside school for footage. We decided to follow our storyboard and have a ball bounce across the camera screen. We experiment with this shot by placing the camera on the floor and bouncing the ball at the camera but making sure the ball bounced over it, however this was not effective so we decided to record a long shot of the ball bouncing across the screen with the camera on a tripod.

We then filmed the establishing shot of our school sign in a close up, we are hoping to change the school sign to have another name over it on the Mac Computers in the editing stages with Final Cut.

Shooting In The Recording Studio- Filming

As we needed to re-record a female version of the title song 'Baggy Trousers' we decided to film most of our video in the recording studio. Myself and Tom recorded Sheriece and Stacey singing into the recording mic in three different shots, the camera I was filming from was in a mid shot. We also used a handheld camera to get a moving shot effect that is common in all music videos.

We continued to film over another session, however this time Tom filmed the technincal equipment while I continued to film shots of Sheriece and Stacey (the band). The main focus was to record the girls singing so that we could use their verison of the song and break conventions of the genre by using all female Ska band.

Storyboards- Part 2

More of my groups completed storyboarding.

Storyboards- Part 1

Below are uploading of my groups finished storyboards with all information on needed for filming.

Storyboarding Part2- Planning

We carried on drawing and colouring our storyboards- as we have access to a recording studio in our school we have decided to use these within our storyboards showing the band recording in the location. We have also decided to use various effects within our music video that we will be able to achieve through final cut- we have an idea of bring a puzzle to life, showing the band within the puzzle. We also want to create an effect that we will only have 1 person playing various instruments at the same time within one frame.

Storyboarding Part1- Planning

We began to start storyboarding various ideas for our music video- what we would filme for it. As the song had a intro where there were no lyrics present we decided to follow a convention of Ska and 2Tone genre with having black and white checked squares that would reveal a establishing shot of the location that most of the video would be shot in and that is our school.

Artist Profile

This is an uploading of my personal planning to help create an image of my band, I completed this task after researching into the image within the Ska genre.

My annotated lyrics

This is an uploading of my annotated lyrics.

Annotating Lyrics Part 2- Planning

For most of the song we have decided to follow Bordwell and Thompson's theory of Rhythmic editing- as the song is fast paced. From annotating our lyrics we were made aware that we would need various actors to act in our videos a common part would be the headteacher as he is referred to throughout the song quite a lot. We have decided to tell a narrative throughout the video and decided that the on screen action would relate directly to the lyrics from the song. We also want to use various black and white checked squares in our video- relating back to the ska genre.

Annotating Lyrics Part 1- Planning

While annotating our lyrics we were made aware that the song and lyrics would be fast meaning we would need a lot of shots to film and use within our music video. We discussed ideas for what we could film for what lyrics- our main focus at first was the chorus of the song (as songs are remembered mainly for there lyrics used in their chorus). We have decided to place a lot of humour in the music video as the lyrics are quite humourous, we have decided to have some instruments playing themselves in a black background.

Re-Recording 'Baggy Trousers'- Planning

As we have decided to push the conventions of the Ska genre by having a female band we needed to record Baggy Trousers with female vocalists. As we have two females in our group we decided to record them- the lead vocalists being Sheriece Bracey and the back up vocals from Stacey McDougall. Also we wanted to push the conventions of Ska further by having a black female vocalist and Sheriece fulfils this role.

Props, Rooms and Locations Needed to Film- Planning

This is a plan showing the props needed when we shoot our music video, the locations we will be shooting in and also the rooms we would need to book when filming around school for our music video- this helps with the organisation of the filming for our music video

Music Video Presentation- Planning

This is a presentation we completed in our group to piece together our planning focusing on the image of our band and the overall image we want to achieve in our music video. The presentation also shows our infleunces and our target audience also the presenation comments on our research into the genre of Ska and music videos.

Annotating Lyrics- Planning

We are in the process of annotating these lyrics for our planning.

Chosen Song In The Ska Genre- Research

This is our chosen song to direct a music video for- myself and my group decided on this.We have decided to direct a music within the genre of Ska- because from our questionnaires we realised that the most popular genre of music was pop and indie, from our results we decided to merge these two genres - bring us to the genre of Ska. While researching the genre of Ska we were made aware that Madness is a band who follow that genre- and as a group we decided to chose the song Baggy Trousers by Madness. We are deciding to break the conventions of the Ska genre by using a black female lead vocalist with another female to form the band. We decided to do this to challenge the genre and bring Ska to a modern audience.

Low Budget Analysis- Research

This is an uploading of low budget analysis of music videos- this will be useful for research into music videos and the use of budget as I will be producing a music video with no budget at all. I was surprised on how effective and interesting the videos are with no budget or very little. I am planning to use various techniques that I was attracted while viewing these low budget music video. The techniques I am planning to use are- the speeding up of the footage while editing, experimenting with the use of colour in my music video and include humour in my music video that is appropriate for my target audience.
